AmaWaterways is a family-owned river line, founded in 2002 by river-cruise pioneers Rudi Schreiner, Kristin Karst and Jimmy Murphy. Its ships carry around 156 guests on average, and as few as 60 to 82 on the Mekong, Nile and Magdalena, so voyages feel personal and uncrowded.
Food is a real strength. Dining is regionally inspired, wine, beer and soft drinks flow freely at lunch and dinner, and The Chef's Table serves a multi-course tasting menu. It's the only river line inducted into La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, the world's oldest gastronomic society.
AmaWaterways introduced the twin-balcony stateroom, with both a French balcony and a full outside balcony, and its double-width AmaMagna is the largest custom-built ship on the Danube.
Excursions run at active, regular and gentle paces, with guided bike rides and hikes in most European ports. On board you'll find a fitness centre, a heated pool, a sundeck walking track and free bicycles.
The fleet is growing quickly: 31 ships in 2026, including the new AmaSofia on the Rhine and Danube and AmaNubia on the Nile, with AmaMaya on the Mekong and the double-width AmaRudi arriving in 2027.
