One of 74 islands in the Whitsunday Group, Hayman screams privacy.
The beauty of our big brown land proves that you don't have to go far to feel like you are a world away. Such is the case with Hayman Island.
The island is small, just 400 hectares and was first charted by Captain James Cook in 1770 who know he was onto a good thing. So did Reginald Ansett. The Aussie aviation pioneer purchased Hayman Island in 1947, three years later he unveiled the Royal Hayman Hotel.
Today, it is known as the InterContinental Hayman Island Resort. IHG purchased the property a couple of years ago, threw a tonne of money into the refurb and unveiled the beauty mid last year.
So what's it like? Stunning in a nutshell. Hayman is accessible via Hamilton Island and then by either luxury vessel, helicopter or seaplane. Then there is the resort. The multi-million dollar refurb, includes two brand new Residences, one three-bedroom Beach House, no less than three private pools including an infinity pool, and 16 new Retreat Rooms.
The Retreat Rooms are located behind the villas, a mere 10 metres from the beach with option to interconnect, a great option for family and multi-generational holidays. Open-plan, they are filled with light and the master bathroom comes complete with a separate shower and bath tub. A child can be accommodated on the day bed but it is important to note this is not a full size bed so would only suit children under 12 years old.
In terms of amenities, the Intercontinental Hayman Island Resort does not disappoint. The resort features 5 restaurants with Italian, Asian and modern Australian cuisines. For a private dining experience you can enjoy a romantic twilight dinner or gourmet beach picnic. Daily breakfast is included in your room rate and Wi-Fi is complimentary.
The spa is a stunning sanctuary, dedicated to personal pampering including facials, body wraps and massages. There is also a state-of-the-art fitness centre, tennis court and the infamous swimming pool. In terms of activities, there are many available from diving, to snorkeling and fishing adventures and all can be arranged via the resort.
