Made up mostly of arid outback, Western Australia is also incredibly diverse.
Beaches, vineyards and some of the best surf the world has to offer.
So next time you find yourself with a spare chunk of annual leave up your sleeve, consider spending 5 days in WA, the Frontier Travel way.
You fly into Broome, the gateway to The Kimberley Region. It will take you most of the day to get there, unless you can snag one of the sparse direct flights, but trust me, it is worth it.
Rich in both history and colour, it is warm, welcoming and a multicultural melting pot. Broome is a popular place for holiday makers and it's not hard to see why. So where should you stay? We recommend the Cable Beach Club, take the afternoon, check in and get settled.
The Sunset Bar & Grill, conveniently located on the property is the perfect place for an lazy drink.
Need to stretch your legs? Head out on a walk along Cable Beach to Gantheaume Point, it will take you around an hour in each direction.
Up for something a little different? Let the resort line up a camel trip. They are run from the property along Cable Beach, and are a sensation and unique way to see one of Australia’s best beaches!
Don't go too hard though, tomorrow is a big day.
Today is the day to explore the cultural hub of Broome. Take a walk into town or the Broome Explorer Bus which departs from Cable Beach. There are also a stack of vehicle and walking tours run by local operators.
Regardless of how you get into town, make sure to stop off at the Broome Historical Museum for a rundown on the history of the area. Broome’s Chinatown started to boom in the 1920’s and 1930’s as a pearling area and is a must see on your trip into town. Walk through the main strip filled with many quirky shops, stop off for a snack at Green Mango Cafe, and catch a film at Sun Pictures, one of the world’s oldest outdoor cinemas.
For dinner, it is off to The Aarli Bar. Here you will get everything from king fish sashimi to Korean fried chicken burgers.
Sadly your time at the Cable Beach Club has come to and end and it is time to hit the road and make your way to Cape Leveque, a remote camp known for its spectacular wilderness and Aboriginal heritage. It is located about three hours away and you’ll need a 4WD for this section of your adventure, as you’ll be off road for a huge portion of it. Spend the day exploring the Cape Leveque Road on your way up to the tip of the Dampier Peninsula.
Drive along the beach in your 4WD and stop off at Beagle Bay, before checking into your accommodation at Kooljaman, a remote wilderness camp run by the Indigenous Bardi Jawi Communities. They have accommodation to suite every traveller, from unpowered camp sites, to Log Cabins, right up the Deluxe Safari Tent .
Another day in paradise and behind the wheel of your 4WD. Today takes you on a resort run guided walk along Eastern and Western Beach or up to the Cape Leveque Lighthouse.
There you can try your hand in catching Trevally or Queenfish off the beach, or if the season is right you’ll be able to spot the whale migration.
Dinner tonight will be in your private accommodation, utilising the resort’s Bush Butler service. How great is that, they do all the prep for you.. you simply pick your meal up from the restaurant and whack it on the BBQ.
Today, you’ll check out of your accommodation and head back down to Broome for your trip home. It’s going to take you around 3-4 hours to get back, so we recommend an afternoon flight down to Perth and to connect on from there.
If that’s too much travel for one day, why not stopover in Perth at the Crown Towers, where you can take advantage of our great rates and inclusions.
