24 Hours In - Miami

Updated: Feb 28

You have landed in Miami, the city of flavours, colour and culture and you don’t have a second to spare.. 24 hours and counting, Here is how your day goes down.

Welcome to Miami

Head immediately to South Beach. Before it gets too hot. Front Porch Cafe is a great neighbourhood spot that has been on the block for more than 20 years. Sit back and watch the Floridians go by as you down your all day breakfast. Stay a while, but not too long. You only have one day.

Then it’s off to the Miami Design District, 130 art galleries, showrooms, art dealers, eateries and bars. Plus shopping, don’t miss the shopping. All the biggies are there, Vuitton, Loubouton, Hermes OH MY! It is heaven.

By now you will be hungry having shopped up a storm. Take yourself to Coral Gables, aka The City Beautiful and have lunch at the Biltmore Hotel. Aim for a Sunday and feast on their world famous brunch.

Then it is off Little Havana, the colourful centre of Hispanic culture in Miami. The area is riddled with cafes and markets, here you will spy hand rolled cigars, steaming cups of cafe con leche, all to the sounds of Cuban beats.

Then it’s a quick disco nap (you’ll need it), an outfit change and it is off to Joe’s Stone Crab. Now pay attention. YOU MUST GO HERE. YOU MUST BOOK. This place is legendary and packed all day but you must go there. There’s a reason it has been around since 1913. Have the Stone Crab Claws. You can thank me later.

Eat

Cubanos.

Florida is famous for its Cubanos aka Cuban sandwiches. What’s not to love - ham, roasted pork, Swiss cheese, mustard, pickled, all heated between crispy, pressed Cuban bread. The current reigning champ making it is Sanguich de Miami, a cosy cafe in East Little Havana. Put it on the list.

Stay

At The Setai. If it’s good enough for Beyonce and Jay Z it’s good enough for you. If the zen-inspired lobby doesn’t put you at ease, the ocean suits with their handmade Swedish beds will.. Did I mention the views?

Play

Or sit completely still and be pampered at The Setai’s Valmont Spa. This place is gorgeous and they are the anti-aging experts. You will leave looking and feeling ten years younger.
